About Us

Empowering Lives Through Education, Care and Rehabilitation

Founded in 1981 by the noble and visionary Dr. Eva D. Bell, this institution began its journey with a simple yet powerful mission—to provide education, care, training and opportunities for children with special needs. What started with just 7 children and 1 teacher has grown into a well-established institution serving around 90 children with the support of 21 dedicated staff members.

Over the years, the institution has become a place of hope, learning and empowerment, helping children discover their abilities and develop the confidence and skills they need to lead more independent and meaningful lives.

A Journey of Compassion and Commitment

Since its establishment, the institution has remained committed to creating a caring and supportive environment for every child. Among its 21 staff members, 10 are specially trained in special education, while 10 dedicated caretakers assist teachers in providing individual attention and day-to-day care.

The institution is managed by the Church of South India, Southern Diocese and functions under the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Government of Karnataka. This strong institutional support has helped it continue its mission of serving children and families with dedication and compassion.

The school’s approach goes beyond conventional classroom education. Every child is understood as an individual with unique strengths, abilities and learning needs. Teachers and caretakers work together with parental care to identify each student’s capabilities and provide appropriate guidance and support.

800+ Children Empowered Since 1981

The impact of the institution can be seen in the lives of the many children who have passed through its doors. Since its inception in 1981, around 800 children have received education, training and rehabilitation support.

Many of the rehabilitated individuals have gone on to become economically independent and are engaged in different occupations, including bakery businesses, aluminium works, book making and other vocational activities.

One of the most inspiring aspects of the institution’s journey is that some rehabilitated individuals have returned to serve as helpers and caretakers within the same institution. Their stories demonstrate the importance of providing children with the right combination of education, vocational skills, encouragement and opportunities.

Individual Attention and Continuous Progress

Understanding that every child learns differently, the institution follows a structured system of individual development and evaluation.

Teaching staff establish yearly and quarterly goals for each student, allowing them to monitor individual progress and identify areas that require additional attention. Quarterly evaluations help teachers understand the development of each child and make necessary adjustments to their educational and training programmes.

This personalised approach ensures that education is not limited to academic learning. Students are encouraged to develop communication skills, social abilities, physical coordination, practical skills and greater independence in everyday life.

The institution’s greatest strength lies in its people. Teachers, caretakers and support staff work together with patience, compassion and dedication to create an environment where every child is valued.

Rather than focusing only on limitations, the institution strives to identify what each child can do and then provides the training and encouragement required to strengthen those abilities. This positive approach helps students build confidence and develop practical skills that can contribute to their future independence.

A Legacy of Service Since 1981

From seven children and one teacher to a thriving institution supporting around 90 children with a dedicated team of 21 staff members, the journey since 1981 is a remarkable story of service, compassion and transformation.

The institution continues to uphold the vision of its founder, Dr. Eva D. Bell, by creating opportunities for children with special needs to learn, grow, develop their abilities and participate meaningfully in society.
